Lamma Bada Yatathanna

Here is a short video of Navid performing a very famous traditional piece, Lamma Bada Yatathanna.

This piece of music is very dear to Navid. It was one of the first pieces of Oud music that Navid ever heard. It was 16 years ago, back around 1997 and Navid’s family had bought a brand new computer. Included in the computer package was Microsoft Encarta 97′. Microsoft Encarta was an encyclopedia that included short video and audio clips to accompany articles. Perhaps it was the beginning of the computer video clip phenomenon. Among these audio clips was a short snippet of music from Egypt. It was a small picture of an Oud and a short clip of Hamza Al-Din’s rendition of Lamma Bada Yatathanna. Navid was already proficient at playing the Iranian Santour, but the Oud seemed to evoke something very special inside him. From then onward, Navid’s passion for the Oud began. Years later, Hamza’s version of Lamma Bada Yatathanna still lingers as one of Navid’s favorite tunes. It is one of those timeless classics, the luster of which never seems to fade.

We hope you enjoy this tune as much as Navid does.
